DevHub Payment System Complete! How to Receive Payments...

Just in time for the Holidays, we have finally launched DevHub’s fully Automated Payment System, which allows you to easily update your payment settings and Cash Out at any time! Be sure to follow the three quick/easy steps below in the next few days so we can get payments out in time for Holiday shopping!

Step 1.
Once logged into DevHub, click on ‘My Account’ in the menu bar in the top left hand corner of the page.

Step 2.
Once ‘My Account’ page loads, click on ‘Payment Settings’ on the left hand side of the page. On the form that loads, choose your payment preference (Check or PayPal), fill out the required fields, and click ‘Update Settings’ button. If you filled it out correctly, you should see a Payment Settings Updated message at the top of the form.

Step 3.
Last step! After updating Payment Settings, click on ‘Payment History’ on the left hand side of the page. Here you will find Earnings, Payment History, and Balance Owed. If you have already submitted your W-8/W-9 tax form and the minimum payment threshold is reached, the ‘Cash Out’ button will be lit up. Click on this button to initiate payment of the Balance Owed based on Payment Settings. You can accumulate your Balance over a few months or get paid out every month — as long as you hit the minimum threshold, all you have to do is hit the ‘Cash Out’ button!

Remember: We must have your W-8/W-9 tax form on file before the Cash Out button is lit up, so be sure to follow these instructions to submit your tax forms. You will see the screen below when you visit ‘Payment History’ if we have yet to recieve your W-8/W-9 tax form.

Cash Out requests will be paid out on time on the 15th of every month. However, since it is already the 15th of the month today (and we are only getting this information to you now), we will send out payments this month for Cash Out requests made up to December 22th 11:59 pm PST. Cash out requests made beyond this time will be sent out on January 15th — so be sure to update Payment Settings and get your W-8/W-9s in ASAP!

Quick note on our new payments system

To accommodate the massive growth of our publisher network (from 375
publishers in February 2009 to over 25,000 publishers today), we have been
hard at work on finalizing our fully automated accounting and payment
system. We are happy to announce this system is in its final stages of
testing and should be launched by October 15th. Prior to this, the
payment process was done manually, and as the number of publishers on our
system grew beyond our means these past few months, it took a lot longer
to get payments processed and sent out to our publishers. Once launched,
you will also be able to see account balance and payment history in your
DevHub account.

To avail of the $5 CASHOUT offer found on the front of the site, you can
receive payment on your first $5 simply by emailing CASHOUT in the subject
line to payments@devhub.com. After this initial payment, as per our terms
[http://www.devhub.com/terms] you must submit a W-9 (US) or W-8
(International) and your account must reach a minimum balance of $100.00 by
the end of the month (carried over month to month if you do not reach this
threshold). Also please note that this cumulative monthly balance is paid
out Net 45, meaning a check is issued forty-five (45) after the end of that
month; this allows us to make sure the traffic and activity in your account
for that month is of quality and to fully collect payments from our
monetization partners.

As always, we thank you for your patience and support as we have been
working rapidly to build a better system for our growing and vibrant
publisher network. Keep tuned as more system upgrades and features

DevHub, who is one of only two companies that were nominated this week for a T.R.A.F.F.I.C. Award for “Best New Monetizing Solution,” tells us they reached a couple of special milestones this month (the T.R.A.F.F.I.C. Award winners will be announced at the T.R.A.F.F.I.C New York conference coming up October 26-29. Trellian’s Above.com was also nominated in this category). DevHub was also one of the five companies we profiled in our March 2009 Cover Story called “The Next Big Thing in Domain Monetization?: New Companies Are Making the Dream of Affordable Mass Development a Reality”.

Company co-founder Mark Michael told us the company reached profitability August 8 and hit a new high water mark for traffic with over 1.1 million visitors across their network. “Within six months of launching, we have struck a number of exclusive partnerships and integrated a slew of monetization tools including: job listings, local business listings, property listings, all 8 of the major affiliate product networks and premium text ads,” Michael said.

On Wednesday the company launched their most recent partnership with Meebo which enables site creators on the DevHub platform to instantly drag-and-drop chat functionality on their sites. The same day they also launched a partnership with Priceline enabling travel-related sites created on DevHub to easily incorporate hotel, airline and car rental offers.

Michael said more new features will be coming in the next few weeks including their DevHub Community. “It will enable ‘DevHeads,’ to communicate and share tips with one another,” Michael said. “We designed DevHub to be a dynamic platform so that as our publishers demand more we have a platform they can scale with.”

After launching in February, DevHub has grown to an active base of over 25,000. Michael said “This community of publishers use DevHub’s site creation tools and monetization modules (of which DevHub has exclusive partners and

premium revenue streams) to easily create niche-focused topical sites, which publishers receive a majority share of all revenues generated from their sites.”

Michael added, “As opposed to site building tools for a community, a small business, or vanity-personal website (already addressed by the likes of a Weebly or Yola), the DevHub platform is optimized for publishers who want to create sites that attract commercial intent-based users. DevHub Best Practices -- Part 1

Here are some best practices when constructing an initial site on DevHub. The theoretical domain we will use for this example is SeattleFishing.com

Site building wizard

In your “My Sites” area, click on the “Add site” link to start the wizard. Proceed through the process to set the title, base keywords (i.e. Seattle Fishing), and the initial description of the site. If the domain is not the exact keyword phrase (i.e. BestSeattleFishing.com), you can leave the title as Best Seattle Fishing, but set the topic of the site to Seattle Fishing.

Building the Home Page

The site building wizard will construct your initial home page for you. This page will contain a content block with your initial site description. You should modify this page (i.e. upload an image or add a Photos module) to make it more inviting to users.

Create initial pages

A good start is to create around 5-7 topical pages at first, then expand to more topics later after the site starts to gain traction.

Keyword research to discover topical page titles

You can use a tool like https://adwords.google.com/select/KeywordToolExternal to search using the base keyword for the site (i.e. Seattle Fishing) to discover great titles for your pages. Sort by the “Global Monthly Search Volume” and scan the list to find some good topical page titles.

After you add the pages, you can shorten the Link Text used within the navigation of your site so they all fit. You can change this in the “Pages & Navigation” section of the editor. Also feel free to re-order the navigation if needed.

Also, after you setup these pages, it is a good idea to add another Text module to the front of the site that then links to these sub-pages. This can be done in a bulleted list or within a paragraph.

Page construction

For most sites, 2 columns works well when starting out your page. You can then start dragging over modules from the right hand side. Below are some basic suggestions that can be used on every page.

Add a “Text” module: The first line should be the title of the page you created (i.e. Charter Fishing Seattle). After that page title, a couple of sentences should be written regarding the topic. One tip would be to search on Google for that phrase and find some description content of the topic. Instead of just copying this content, you should rewrite and rephrase the content to make it original to this site. To optimize for search engines, you should select the text for the page title (i.e. Charter Fishing Seattle) and then set the “Paragraph Style” to Heading 1.
Add a CPC based monetized module: Directly after the Text module, you should drag one of the CPC monetized modules. These modules include CPC Ads, Local Directory, and Jobs. Use your discretion when choosing what module to use, but this will be your primary monetization on the page. Think of what users would find relevant.
Add a supporting module: In the right hand column you can add an additional monetization option (i.e. Affiliate products) or a relevant Image or Photo module. This will bring color and images to the page and if the user is more engaged it can result in a CPA transaction which yields more than just the click.

Customize the appearance

To add a little more uniqueness to the site, you can modify the colors in the “Appearance” section of the editor. Choose colors that would match the site’s topic.

Resources page

Its also a good idea to create a “Resources” page that can be used for link exchanges later as the site grows. You can remove the page from the main navigation, this page will still exist in the site and it will be spidered.

Getting links

If the domain is not indexed in the Search engines yet, it needs an initial link from an indexed site to get it started. You can use the resources pages within your other sites to give that first link. Other sites like Digg.com, Reddit.com, and other similar services will also give you that intial link if you submit the site there.

Just the start

This should help you get the initial site up and running. After your portfolio starts to pick up momentum, you can revisit the top performers (traffic or earnings) and continue to optimize and add more topical pages and modules (i.e. Blogs, etc).
